There are 42 sheltering organizations in the province of Alberta that manage 53 women’s emergency, second stage and senior’s shelters. Shelters come in all shapes and sizes from 8 beds to 40 and vary in number of staff members and the level of services offered.
Shelter staffs are committed, caring individuals who are faced with daily challenges. They work to see positive changes in the lives of the women and children who arrive at their doors and to encourage families in their communities to move towards healthy, respectful relationships.

Qualifications:
- Minimum Bachelors’ Degree in a relevant area such as social work human services or a combination of education and experience
Duties:
Reporting to a Board of Directors and working within funding contracts, the Executive Director’s primary responsibilities are to:
- provide direction and supervision to all shelter employees and ensure the efficient day to day operations of the shelter
- create a positive working team environment
- ensure sound financial management
- negotiate funding for the programs and operations of the shelter
- work closely with funding authorities, other partnering organizations and agencies
- attend board and committee meetings
- recruit and evaluate employees
