2011-2012 Board of Directors Bio's

  • Barbara Young, President

    Barb brings a wealth of experience, both as a volunteer and from over 40 years in the oil and gas industry, working both in Canada and on projects in developing countries around the world.  Up until the sale of her company last year she was Director of Human Resources for Dominion Exploration Canada Ltd.  She is continuing to be active on a part-time basis as a consultant and teacher in the field of Human Resources.

     

    Barb has chaired the Diversity Committee of the Faculty of Management at the University of Calgary,  been a Member of the Advisory Committee for that faculty, and has held numerous volunteer positions within industry and the social service sector.  She is currently Vice Chair of the World Community Service Committee for the Calgary Rotary Club and on the Board of Discovery House, where she has served during two terms for a total of over 10 years.  Barb has been on the ACWS board since 2006.

     

  • Karen Pease, Vice President

     

    Karen Pease is the Executive Director of the Community Crisis Centre in Strathmore Alberta as well as a member of the ACWS Board. Karen developed and delivered training to various community service providers, including RCMP, Child and Family Service employees, staff and volunteers. She also participated in protocol development with diverse Calgary agencies

 

 

  • David Monroe, Secretary

David retired in 2006 after a career of 37 years in the Real Estate Finance industry.  For 33 of those years he worked for Canada Mortgage & Housing Corporation, and in his various jobs there has had the privilege of visiting every Province and Territory of Canada, except the Yukon.  David has been active as a volunteer for some years and is currently on the Board of Directors of the Awo Taan Healing Lodge Society in Calgary.  When not doing volunteer work, David is most likely to be found in the kitchen at home trying a new recipe or on the golf course when weather permits.

 

 

  • Lois Day, Treasurer

    Lois Day is an active volunteer in the Peace River Community.  She has sat on the Peace River Regional Women’s Shelter Board for 10 years and has been the treasurer for the past 4. Lois also sits on the ACWS Board and is currently the Financial Manager for the Peace River Veterinary Clinic.

 

  • Brenda Rebman

    Brenda is currently the Vice President, Organizational Learning, Development and Recruitment for Alberta Health Services.  She holds a B. Admin, MBA and Certified Human Resources Professional Designation, along with many certifications in the fields of health care, facilitation and human resources consulting. She is a visionary, solutions focused strategist with 30 years of multi-faceted experience in operations, strategy development, leadership, change management and high-profile relationship management in three provinces; British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan. She has served on provincial and national committees and is the founder of Futures Resource Partners Inc., a human resource consulting company that uses world-class HR practices to assist clients in building a sustainable, future focused organization.  

 

  • Noreen Cotton

 

Noreen Cotton became the Executive Director of St. Paul Columbus House of Hope in May 2009 after working with this shelter since 2007 as a crisis intervention worker administering Danger Assessments with the women. Under Noreen’s leadership Columbus House of Hope became one of the eight Alberta shelters that participated in the Practical Frameworks for Change Project. Prior to this Noreen was self-employed business woman. She is now currently serving on the ACWS board.

 

  • Marjorie Luger

    Marj Luger is the Executive Director of the Yellowhead Emergency Shelter in Hinton Alberta as well as a member of the ACWS Board.

     

 

 

 

  • Janene Moch

    Janene currently serves on the board of YWCA Lethbridge as the chair of finance. She served in the same role with the board of Economic Development Lethbridge and has been a member of Executive Women International for ten years. Janene has also acted as a facilitator with the CA School of Business since its inception. Janene received her Bachelor of Management degree from the University of Lethbridge in 1991 and in 2007 she received her Diploma in Investigative and Forensic Accounting (DIFA) from the University of Toronto.

 

  • Edna Willier

     

    Edna Willier has a social work diploma and is committed to ongoing professional development.  Currently she is the Environment Co-ordinator with the Lesser Slave Lake Indian Regional Council Environment Program.  Edna has brought her experince as a shelter worker to her  volunteer position on the Sucker Creek Women’s Shelter Board and as a member of the ACWS board as well.

 

 

 

 

  • Brigitte Baradoy

Brigitte Baradoy is an oriented professional with sixteen years of front-line and management experience across a broad range of child and family services. She is currently the Executive Director of Discovery House Family Violence Prevention Society. Brigitte collaborated in cross-ministerial protocol development and training. She also monitored, evaluated and developed contractual agreements for service delivery.

 

 

  • Nora-Lee Rear

Nora-Lee Rear is the Executive Director of Eagle’s Nest Stoney Family Shelter.  Nora-Lee works as an advocate within the Aboriginal community for the reduction of Family Violence, while promoting healing and understanding of its prevalence. She has a Bachelor’s in Child Studies and Children’s Mental Health.  She brings years of experience to the ACWS Board which she now serves on as over the past 12 years her roles have included Child Support, Family Violence Prevention Counsellor, Outreach Counsellor, Peace Coordinator, Coordinator of ParentLink Centre, member on various Advisory Boards and her current role as Executive Director.

 

 

  • Pat Garrett

Patricia Garrett is the Executive Director of the Wings of Providence.

Patricia hasover 20 years experience working in the family violence

prevention sector.Patricia has been involved with Interagency Committee

on Wife Assault which evolved into CIAFV.

Patricia is on the leadership team of Community Initiatives Against

Family Violence and finds the information, educational opportunities

and networking with other family violence service providers is an important

way of meeting client and agency needs. Patricia is also a member of the

leadership team of Housing Support Services Hub.
